Atlantic Speed Record Attempts 2012
Have you got what it takes?
Woodvale Works is launching four Mid-Atlantic speed record attempts in early 2012 and will be putting out some of the fastest rowing boats in existence.
- Titan - a brand new lightweight 8-man boat
- Aud Eamus - an 8-man boat which holds the Indian Ocean Speed Record
- Oytershack - a 6-man boat which is the fastest boat ever into Antigua (crewed by RowforFreedom - leaving La Gomera in December 2011)
Woodvale will run record campaigns for the mid-Atlantic route (La Gomera in the Canary Islands to Barbados - 2600 miles away). The records will be more than just rowing hard…route selection, reaction to situations and a degree of luck with the weather all come into play.
Triple Olympic Gold Medallist, James Cracknell, said of Woodvale races: “It sounds like a cliché but the races will change you. You’ll discover that both the mind and body are capable of things far beyond the boundaries to which we normally push them. There will be plenty of times in the middle of the ocean when you’ll ask yourself why you entered, but when you reach land there will only ever be pride in what you have achieved.”
