Heritage Explorer
Type : Woodvale Pairs Class Built: 2007 Crossings: Indian Ocean ’09 (11 days at sea), Atlantic Ocean ’10 (80 days at sea) Price: £25,000 During her scrutineering for the Atlantic race she was deemed one of the best prepared boats to enter a Woodvale race and remains in the same condition, with the same equipment as when she began the race. An extremely smart and well-cared for boat. Fully equipped to the 2009 Woodvale specification. Heritage Explorer (formerly ‘Doing Time’) was built and fully fitted out at a cost of over £45,000 for the Indian Ocean Rowing Race 2009. She only completed 11 days at sea before pulling out of the race due to lost and broken equipment. She was then bought in July 2009 for the Atlantic Ocean Rowing Race 2009/2010. Before entering the race she had; a full re-spray (£4,500), new batteries, extra solar panels added (a total of 185w), an additional 9ft para anchor added to go with the 12ft, a spare watermaker (35e) added to go with the Katadyn 40e and survival watermakers. In short, she was prepared to deal with any scenario and to ensure that the crossing was completed. Masses of spares of everything and masses of advice. Open to viewing and currently based in Peterfield, Hampshire on a decent trailer which is included in the price. Please contact Tom Heal – 07817168788 or email me at – atlanticrowyt@googlemail.com

Southern Cross
Current Owners:James Thysse and Jamie Facer-Childs Type of Boat: Woodvale Pairs BoatYear of Manufacture: 2007 by Woodvale Crossings:Indian Ocean in 2009 Price: £16,000 Description In 2009 Southern Cross became the first wooden pairs boat to cross the Indian Ocean, land to land. A very quick and strong boat, she lead the pairs-class race for 80 days, withstanding a capsize. Following a run of bad weather Southern Cross finished second, only 18 hours behind the Atkinson-Pairs plastic boat. Southern Cross showed incredible reliability, pulling us through battering storms and reaching the highest ever ocean rowing speed recorded, 17.9 knots, while surfing the waves. With a superbly crafted rudder that gave great balance and control over the boat and a Katadyn water-maker, well positioned, low down and dry, that never failed us and comes with the full spares kit. The essential boat equipment (i.e. solar power, water-mater, batteries, etc.) worked brilliantly for the entire 103 days and leaves the boat 90% ready for its next crossing. Boat Equipment The boat complies with the 2009 Woodvale race specifications and comes with the following kit: Complete rowing positions and seats, 1 set of Rowtec Sawyer blades, Lifejackes and harnesses, Katadyn Power Survivor 40E watermaker, Katadyn Pur35 handheld watermaker, EPIRB, Fixed and handheld VHF radio, Fixed GPS, Handheld GPS, 120W peak worth of solar panels (1 rigid and 4 semi-flexible), lewmar hatches, Paranchor with 50m of rope and swivel shackle, 2xdrogues, 2 fixed Whale bilge pumps, 1 handheld bilge pumps, fire extinguishers and fire blanket, compass, Internal sat phone aerial, all required bridles for drogues and para-anchor, steering system, land anchor with chain and 30m rope, 2 deep cycle gel batteries, battery monitor, many other essential items such as buckets, cabin lights, nav light etc and finally loads of extras and spares for most equipment. Our AIS was faulty but should be fixed on warranty. The boat also comes with a decent trailer and heaps and heaps of advice!! Alex Bellini
The boat is still in a good shape and though it needs some adjustments and small repairings it will be easly ready to set off for a new adventure. It fits for one rower only. It needs a new rudder. It has been designed by Phil Morrison and built by Rowsell and Adkin. It crossed Atlantic from Italy to Brasil in 2005/2006 (226 days) and Pacific from Lima (Perù) to Australia 2008 (in 294 days).I bought it from a german after he attempted to cross the Atlantic W-E in 2004. only 60 days of sea. When I bough it it was like new. I've taken care of it soo much and made a lot of improvements. It's well built. I spent more then 500 days of my life on it and I can say that it is safe and selfrighting. It has a very good and safe electrical system, 4 solar pannels still working very well. I had also 3 flexible solar pannels but they are out of work. 3 batteries to be checked. It comes with AIS (automatic identification System- anticollision system. the best system I ever tried!) like new, VHF radio, purple finder (tracking system) and navigation lights. The boat is currently stored in Italy. My request is £ 23.000 negotiable. |
