North Atlantic Rowers take on the Gobi Desert
On the 10 July 2008 Porky Waterson, Clive Robertson, Rick Gannon, Dave (Jammy) Hartley, Dave and Pete Rowlands will embark on Commando Joe's third challenge.
Having already skied to the Magnetic North Pole and rowed the North Atlantic Ocean, the Sandbaggers 7 day, 150 mile Gobi Desert Challenge should be a walk in the park. Except that the team will be carrying all their own equipment with the exception of water to survive.
Whilst seen as a sprint compared to the last two challenges, the mental and physical toughness required to complete this event is unique. To date only 29 people have ever finished the race. The team are also dedicating their efforts to Gareth Rowlands, Pete's 16 year old son who tragically died of meningitis without showing any signs or symptoms whilst at boarding school in Derbyshire.
Please support your fellow ocean rowers by making a donation at http://www.justgiving.com/gobimarathon
Your donation will allow the Meningitis Trust to continue to offer their free services to those families affected by the disease.
Good luck from everyone at Woodvale
